Grounded In Music

I've decided that I'm going to break out of my musical norm and try new artists and groups and then share some of my favorites with you via my blog!

Music has always been a primary force in my life... I don't think a day goes by that I don't listen to music in one form or another. Music grounds me and relaxes me. Every song is attached to a person, place, timeframe, or event for me.

Keep scrolling down for more of my favorite tunes updated weekly!

First up is "God Help the Girl" sang by Catherine Ireton. This group has sort of a 50's retro sound and is classified as indie pop. I think this song kicks ass!

‘God Help The Girl’ is a story set to music, by Stuart Murdoch. He's been working on it intermittently for the last five years.

Ingrid Michaelson~ Lady In Spain~ from her "Be OK" album. This is an uplifting "I can do anything" sort of song.

Ingrid Michaelson~ Turn To Stone~

Neutral Milk Hotel~ The King of Carrot Flowers~ An American indie rock band formed by singer, guitarist and songwriter Jeff Mangum in the early 1990s. The band was noted for its experimental sound, obscure lyrics, and eclectic instrumentation

Rare photographs of Anne Frank set to the music of Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea".

Regina Spektor is a pianist, singer, and songwriter.  She was born in Moscow, USSR. Her music is associated with the anti-folk scene centered in New York City's East Village. I have a love hate relationship with her music because while I LOVE several of her songs, some of them sound like me when I was about seven and I would grap my hairbrush for a mike and make up words to songs as I went along! Know what I mean?

This is good stuff right here! Her Morning Elegance / Oren Lavie.

Who doesn't love PINK? Her performance at the Grammys when she sang "Glitter In The Air" was like a Cirque du Soleil performance! However, my cousin pointed out to me that her one line in the song that states "thunder before lightning" is an impossibility because there is no thunder before lightning. You need the lightning to get the thunder. Oh well, I still love Pink and the song!
